Competitions Explained

Internal Club Competitions

Print League – Three rounds, up to three images in each round. Two highest scores to count.
Projected Digital Image League – Three rounds, up to four images in each round. Three highest scores to count.

See Programme page for dates.  A different, independent judge from the photography club circuit is invited to judge each round.

There are two sections in each league, one for Advanced (Division 1) and one for Beginners/Intermediates (Division 2) so if you’re just starting out in photography or have more experience, you will be competing with members at a similar level.

Of course if you don’t have the full quota of images you can still enter and have your work judged.  It is interesting what can be learnt from judges’ comments.

Print League dates
Round 1 - 14th October 2011
Round 2 - 13th January 2012
Round 3 - 16th March 2012

Projected Digital Image League dates
Round 1 - 11th November 2011
Round 2 - 17th February 2012
Round 3 - 13th April 2012

Tristram Reed, our Technical Advisor has kindly prepared these instructions to help you prepare your digital images.

The Oak Leaf Salver for Digital Audio Visual (DAV) sequences, only one entry per member.

Part 2
Ted Moore Trophy for a set of three, non-related Prints.
18+ M.O.L Trophy for prints awarded 18 or more (or 9 or more when marked out of 10) in any NHPS competition throughout the season.

External Competitions

In addition to the above internal competitions, the Club takes part in various competitions with other local camera clubs (see Programme page for details).  These may be for prints, projected digital images and digital audio visual sequences.

Southern Photographic Federation (SPF)
The Club also takes part in the Southern Photographic Federation Print League and PDI League.  NHPS came first in their division 2010/11 season for Prints and third in their division for PDIs.  Each Division is made up of a group of clubs from the Southern region.  Each club enters 8 images for the season.  These are chosen subject to the rules, from all those that scored 18 or more in the clubs internal competitions during the previous season.  These images are then judged during a competition night at each of the clubs.  See links below for more information.

Remember, it's not the 'winning' but the 'taking part' that counts.
